A man has successfully bought Google.com - the domain name for the world's most popular website - for just $12.Sanmay Ved, a student at Babson University and a former Google employee, detailed how he was able to purchase well-known one of the most domain names in the world for just $12.
Sharing his experience in Linked-in, Ved said he had been browsing domain names to purchase. He was shocked when Google.com was shown as available to buy, so he clicked the 'add to cart' button.
"I clicked the add to cart icon beside the domain (which should not appear if the domain is not available for sale).
"The domain actually got added to my cart as seen by the green check-box, and the domain appeared in my cart."
"The scary part was I had access to the webmaster controls for a minute," Ved said. "So for one minute I had access," Ved said.
"At least I can now say I'm the man who owned Google.com for a minute."
When he clicked confirm, and paid, ownership of the Google.com website was actually transferred to Ved.
Ownership was officially transferred to him, but minutes later he received an email from Google saying they had cancelled the order.
Mr Ved said he has contacted the firm's security team to alert them to the breach.
"I can't shake that feeling that I actually owned Google.com," Ved said.
